Laundry for a Week

This is an assignment that the parents are going to love and your child may not love as much.

1. Your Child will need to do a full weeks worth of laundry (3-5 loads).

2. Sort Clothes into appropriate loads. Read label on clothing, and remember the different things we talked about in class as far as sorting laundry goes.

3. Pretreat, wash, dry (in dryer or hang up).

4. Fold and put away.

At the end of a week please log on and leave a remark on how the week went for your child.

Time Management

How does your Child spend their time during your day.  I know that there are many different activities they are involved in along with homework, school, friends, and family responsibilities and not to mention trying to enjoy some down time.

For your Childs assignment have them sit down and write down how they think they spend the 24 hours they have in the day.  Have them think through the different things that they are involved in.  I know that everyday is not the same but try to think of a day that may be in the middle considering how busy their days are.  The next three days they are going to write down everything they do and how long they did it on the worksheet that they were given in class.  They need to only record large categories of things such a school instead of listing each class separate.  Another examples is practice instead of listing all their different practices.  After the three day have them look at their tracking sheet and fit their activities into the categorizes on the time management sheet.  Have them bring the sheet to class on the next Monday and we are going to go over how all the members in the class fill their day.

Parents please log on and let me know that your child recorded their activities for three whole days.

Button Sewing

The night that your child bring home the packet for the button sewing assignment please follow the directions below and help them.  They will be sewing two different buttons one regular (sew-thru) and one shank.  The packet includes thread, needle, 2 types of buttons, and a piece of fabric.  You will need to provide your own scissors.  Please follow the below directions:

Sewing Sew-Thru Buttons

  1. Use a double strand of thread. Knot the end. Take a small stitch on the right side. Take a second stitch in same place.
  2. Bring needle and thread through one hole in button. Center button over stitch. Insert needle into another hole in the button and into the fabric. Pull through.
  3. Slip a toothpick, needle, or pin between thread and button to form shank. Take 3 or 4 stitches through each pair of holes.
  4. Bring needle and thread to right side under button. Remove toothpick, needle, or pin.
  5. Wind thread 2 or 3 times around button stitches to form shank.
  6. Secure thread in fabric under button by making a knot or several small stitches.

Children’s Book Reading

Your child’s assignment is to read a Children's book to a child between the ages of 2 and 6.  They need to make sure that the book is age appropriate for the age of the child they are reading.  If your child does not have a sibling, neighbor, friend, cousin, or someone you know in those ages they can read the children’s book to you as a parent.   Here are some of my favorite children's book, but please feel free to read any children’s book your family loves.

After your child is done reading the book please log on and post a remark about how well your child accomplished the assignment and how well they interacted with the child.

Cooking Dinner Homework!

Parents this assignment is going to be a nice break for you and your child is going to have a great experience getting to prepare dinner for the family.  In the next 2 weeks they will pick a night and make dinner including a main dish, side, and a dessert.  Here are in instructions to the assignments:
